This PSA, starring Kiera Knightly, was produced by Women’s Aid in the UK and has been shown in UK cinemas. But it has not yet been seen on television, because the company that censors tv advertising for the British government wants the shots showing Knightly being kicked and beaten to be removed.
I fail to see the point, myself, if the violence is removed. After all, it is the point, right?
Put the gun down, Smart Mouth Broad!

? I cannot find a link for the PSA…
That’s strange. On my computer, it’s a big honking video in the middle of the page. Hmmm. It can also be found at YouTube.com
Oops! Checked on TFH’s Windows-based laptop and couldn’t see the video, although it was visible on both my Macs. Think I’ve fixed the problem now.
Powerful stuff. Can’t imagine it will be on US TV (or in US theaters, for that matter) anytime soon.
I guess an aesthetic argument could be made that “suspense is more suspenseful when the action occurs off-camera”; OTOH there’s no denying that this is more convincing. Which as you say is the point, isn’t it?
I don’t think there was any aesthetic argument, John. I think they were just too chicken-shit to show it.
Locked and loaded.
Believe me when I say that I could never hunt. I would never be able to aim a weapon at an animal unless it was attacking me or someone else. I would have no problem AT ALL taking out a so-called human who was attacking someone I love or probably anyone.
I’m confident in my aim but not in my judgment so while I’ve taken the concealed weapons class, I don’t carry…….yet.
This sickens me. I hope they keep it running.
I didn’t join the debate on this issue on your post, Smartmouth, because my head and my heart are at war on this one. My heart would want to drop him at a hundred paces with a shot to the heart. My head tells me two wrongs don’t make anything right, and, if it’s revenge I want, maybe he should spend some time in the prison shower with Bubba, if you get my drift. Which is all academic, because I don’t know how I would react if it were one of mine.
CUT
Very powerful.
Apparently too powerful. Sigh.
OMG I couldn’t watch that without wanting to throw up! Having flashbacks of my former life and I feel every punch and kick to my gut.
Pisses me off that they don’t want to show THIS but yet we get to watch those fucking make your penis bigger ads over and over!!??!! As you can tell, I’m mad as hell and shaking just pounding out this message. Thank you for showing this. I’m stealing it and showing it myself.
I’m sorry if it caused you pain, MLS, but I’m glad you are making use of it.
I saw this a while back Tessa, can’t remember where, could have been bored.com, but it is a powerful piece and brings this far too common crime to more public attention.

WWW
Thank you, www. It was pretty tough to watch but, as you say, it needs to be brought to people’s attention.
I don’t understand why this message can’t get out in such a powerful way as this? Unless men just don’t want to admit that it happens. We can have all kinds of violence in movies and TV but just can’t point the finger at obviously wrong behavior. Reminds me of when Garth Brooks video of “Thunder Rolls” was widely banned because of the theme about domestic violence. If only banning videos like this could banish the actual acts.
I’m not sure whether it is because men don’t want to admit it, or that they can’t stomach watching it. The First Husband took one look, and backed away. There was a story a few months back that there were complaints from BBC viewers, I think it was, about having a disabled presenter on a kid’s program. The general tenor was, okay, we know there are lots of people with physical disabilities, but our kids shouldn’t have to watch them on their screens. Hard to believe, I know. I wonder if there might have been some of that thinking behind the ban: we know it’s out there, but we shouldn’t have to watch it in the intermissions between our erotic, violent, or mindless television viewing. Who knows what stupidity lurks in the heart of man?
