I haven't read any Byatt since "Possession", and now you've persuaded me that I should read more. But what am I to do with the stacks of books I've purchased and haven't read? Lucky me, I'm still giving in to my buy-a-new-book addiction, and yes write more about your childhood it's delightful.
Norm, I'm thrilled you visited my blog. I love yours! I promise, you won't be disappointed by The Children's Book. It was far and away the best book I've read in an age. I don't know how you will deal with the book stacks, but they were weighing on my mind, like promises I had to keep before I could move on. It's really hard not buying any new ones pro tem, but I'm keeping a wish list and will splurge as soon as I clear the backlog.

I love the fact Margaret stubbornly refers to A.S. as "Susan." So very artfully passive-aggressive (anyway, it was an art form in *my* family and I have high standards for it).
What can I say, Ruth? I'm only too familiar with sisterly aggression in all its myriad forms. The She-Devil still refers to me as Chasaveen, which was one of the ways she tormented me as a child. I hated that nickname so much when I was growing up, but I've lanced its venom by taking it as my domain name and Twitter handle.

You should write more about your childhood. Your words are enchanting.
Thank you, Tami. I'm blushing ... I'm sure you will hear lots more about my childhood as we go along. I find I'm thinking about it more and more as I grow older, far from home. But I find I can only gain perspective by writing about it.
